Neutrals and soft colors

Of course you’ve heard this a million times now, neutrals are always an easy place to start. Neutrals are muted colors that include black, white, gray, beige, brown, and navy. These colors will match a larger range of colors. Soft colors also work! These are colors that are mixed with white. You want lighter colors that don’t distract as much from the family!

Don’t overuse patterns!

You should stick with solid colors that complement each other, but if you must use patterns, try for limited patterns. Choose one person to wear a pattern everyone can match with. If mom chooses a floral dress that has teal, brown, pastel purple, and a little hint of green, you can use those colors as your color palette. This will aid you in the process of finding colors that work well together.

Consider the background to your Denver Family Photos

Scout out the place you’ll be taking the family photos. You don’t want to completely blend in with your surroundings or have colors that clash. For example, if you’re going up into the mountains here in Colorado with some lighter brown rocks, you might not want to go with tan or beige as your colors. This will blend you into the background. In reverse, if you’ve got blue mountains behind you, navy might not be the best for your shoot!

Ask your photographer!

One thing that you might overlook is the expertise of your photographer! Because we’ve been in the family photo game for a while, they might have some more tips for you choosing your outfits. Try running your outfit past your photographer. I would be happy to give some pointers or let you know if the colors won’t work well when you get them printed or posted.
