Trying to book your maternity session, but not sure how to prepare? As a Denver family photographer, I’ve captured my fair share of maternity shoots and I’m ready to help you prepare for yours. First off, congratulations on your little one! Pregnancy is such an incredible experience and a maternity session can help you remember those beautiful feelings!

When To Schedule Your Maternity Photos

Maternity photos are usually done at the beginning of your third trimester. During the beginning of the third trimester you should have a nice round bump. After you get past about 35 weeks, there’s more of a chance of you going on bed rest or into labor. You also begin to feel a little uncomfortable This is why I suggest you’re 27-32 weeks along when you get the maternity photos. So start to reach out to photographers you’re interested in for around 20 weeks!

Get Family Involved

Another one of the 3 best tips for maternity photos is to have your partner or someone else who will be helping raise your little one with you. You want all family members involved in the shoot and you want to share with your little one who loved them first. Another reason is there is variety in the photos. You can do different poses with your partner or a pet then you could get some solo shots.

Have Fun With Props - Best Tips for Maternity Photos

You might also consider getting some props to bring along. Some soon-to-be mothers bring booties their child is going to wear. A lot of maternity photos also have teddy bears or onesies.

This can add another layer to the photos. It can give you some unique shots that will be fun to hang in the nursery. These items can also be kept for them when they grow older to have that fun memory.
